A Fantastic Event

Well, the UFDSSC has come and gone. Beer chug call-ups, Golden sombreros, big wheels TT, and much more were found at this years event. Oh, and there just so happened to be a bicycle race on the same day we all gathered to act like giant children, and I'll be damned if those crazy guys didn't all have tight outfits on and 2 of them were even wearing party hats by the end of it. HEATHENS!

As soon as I find out where the pics will be posted I will link them here and incase any of you want to keep score

Thanks to all who attended, volunteered, donated, sponsored, and just plain had a good time. Below was some of the footage captured at the after party. (not sure where the little brown dudes came from, but they seemed to be having a great time)

Thank You All!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, raced, sponsored, supported, and spectated. Without all of you this event would not have been a success.  Results will officially be posted tomorrow, but can be seen now on our Facebook race page. We are already planning for next year!

Thank you to all and to all a good night!

See You Tomorrow!

The rain we had did an amazing job of knocking down the dust. The tires are now more grabby than a drunk frat boy at a strip club! The forecast looks great and we hope to see you at the race tomorrow!

All the Cool Kids are Doing It!

Don't let anyone fool ya, the UFDSSC is good for your health too!

Don't Forget

There will be packet pickup/registration available Friday evening from 5-8 at the race site and Saturday morning from 8:30-10:30 also at the race site. Race starts at 11:00 Saturday morning.

Since Danno requested good music at the race, I put him in charge of being the DJ. Unfortunately for all of you...

Can it get any better (err worse)? You betcha!

Raffle Smaffle!

We like to do things a little different here and in the spirit of fun we decided to get rid of the same old boring raffle. You know the one where you get that ticket that you will most likely lose, but you kinda remember the number and think you won just about every time they call one out. Well, there will be no disputing who wins the UFDSSC version of a raffle. Rather than expecting you to keep track of that stupid little ticket, you will get the chance to duke it out man to man (or woman to woman) on a complex figure 8 course. The weapon of choice you might ask...

Goofy suit and backflips are optional.

We Gots the Good S#!T

We have a few more prizes to receive still, but I think I am going to need a separate vehicle just to haul all the goodies to the race. Each racer will receive a goodie bag with some complementary samples from our amazing sponsors and as always, everyone has an equal chance of taking home something from the pile**.

**The small print**
Must be 71.5 years of age and or drive a pink smartcar to enter. Shipping and handling fees will apply. A voucher will be given to qualified participants and must be redeemed within 1 day 3 hours and 41sec. Upon receipt the UFDSSC has 48 months to deliver said prizes. No purchase necessary unless you would like to skip all this shit and pay $25 to enter the race!

Taped, Whacked, Blown, and Ridden Fast

The trails are great! Bet you thought by the title this post was going somewhere else. As a semi-mentally developed male, I must never pass up an opportunity for sexual innuendo. Well since this is a race blog, I will maintain every effort to keep it PG-13.

With a little bit of elbow grease, the hard work has been done. Tape has been wrapped and tied up tight, the overgrowth has been thoroughly whacked, and the trail has been blown clean as a whistle. Everything is fast, grippy, and flowing well. There is a little more rain in the forecast predicted for tonight, but with the current conditions of the trails, it should really help make the tires stick like glue.

The course is available for pre-riding now. The start loop and the gravel roads towards the finish line will not be taped until Friday due to city worker traffic, but the rest of the trail is ready to go. The race will run clockwise, so if you are standing in the parking lot facing the road you just came in on, look to your right and start there on the singletrack. Feel free to enjoy the course and if there are any confusing areas that might need more markings please let me know.

And since I generally have the maturity level of a 13 year old...

We may not have Barry, but we will certainly have Danno.

D-Day is Upon Us

I hope everyone enjoyed their extended holiday weekend. I know I sure did and all I have to show for it are some racing stripe sun burns down my arms, dehydration (not sure why, because I was drinking the whole time), and a little residual headache, which I can only assume came from my beverage of choice. With all of that out of the way, we are heading into the final few days leading up the sweetest SS shindig in Missouri.

The course will be marked for the most part on Thursday evening and barring any tampering from the locals or wildlife should stay that way for all to pre-ride Friday and Saturday morning. Thanks to all of the hard work put in by volunteers, the brush and overgrowth should be cleared back. Reports are coming in that the ground is unusually fast due to this drought.

We still have great prizes rolling in from sponsors and we here at the UFDSSC are really excited to announce that we received a sweet shipment of goodies from Trek and Bontrager as well. On a different sponsor note, we are sad to announce that Public House is no longer working with us on the brew for the event, but have no fear, the UFDSSC will not be left high and dry. There will be plenty of adult beverages supplied to be consumed before, during, and after the race.  We have taken care of the dry dilemma, as for the high part... Lets just say this is not a USAC sanctioned event and if someone asks you to piss in a cup you might want to tell them Cheech said you were good.

How We Roll!

Well, well, well, we have a few more sponsors to add to the list. We would like to throw a big thank you out to the kind folks at ESI Grips and the wonderful people at Polar Bottles.

Here at the UFDSSC we like to cover every aspect and component of riding. We are proud to say that we can officially keep your drivetrains lubed and clean, your rear ends soft, your hands from going numb, debris out of your eyes while you look dead sexy doing so, your beverages cold (or hot depending on the season), your goodies locked up tight, and your tires inflated to that perfect PSI. All you have to do is spin your legs off like a hamster on crack...

*Disclaimer* Here at the UFDSSC we do not endorse giving small mammals crack or any other illegal substance.

Join the Party

3 weeks to go and counting... We have few more companies to thank for contributing to our wonderful little shindig. We have some great prizes from Küat (the finest rack company located just down the road in Springfield), Genuine Innovations, and Chamois Butter (another Mo local). Don't forget to say "thank you" by picking up some great products from these fine companies.

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

We are under a month away and things are coming together... We have Tifosi on board as well as Progold. Both of these fine companies products can be found at the one and only Route66 bikes. I was also told by a little birdie that Trek is in the process of delivering some primo goodies for the race bags and for the prizes of those fortunate to stand on the podium (or in our case the mulch pile beside me).

The Boy(s) are back in Town

I am back from my mini vacation down in South Carolina where I had the pleasure of visiting great friends and shredding amazing trails. Now that the fun is over, it is back to business as usual and we have a few updates for the race...

There will be onsite camping available for the Friday night before the race and the night of the race courtesy of the city of Saint James.

Days Inn and Suites in Saint James has graciously offered a race discount to anyone who enjoys showering, a bed, and not manning up like our ancestors. When you call for reservations just mention the race and they will give you 10% off the nightly rate.

And finally, while in South Carolina I picked up our new latest, greatest, cutting edge timing equipment! We should be able to record all your finishing times down to the hour (give or take a few minutes). Now if I can just figure out how to read the damn thing...

Bottoms Up!

We now have Public House on board for our extravaganza! While their fine brew should be savored and enjoyed, we might have to break a few rules and have beer chug call ups. There is nothing like downing a good pint only to follow it up with a start so fast it'll make you see red and want to puke. At least when you are light headed and wobbling you will have a head start and the fine flavor of Public House tickling your tastebuds!

Early packet pickup will take place Friday at the best Brewery in Rolla. If you find yourself in this area before the race please stop by and tell them you are attending the race and appreciate their support.

Directions to the PARTY!

Look for the big green sign that says Saint James. Turn off I44. If you are coming from the East, turn left next to where the old oak tree used to be. If West, turn towards the barking dog tied to the fence. Once on the main road turn left at the old gas station where the man smoking a pipe usually sits on Thursdays. Go a few miles down the road past the vaccum cleaner museum and turn Right at the sign that says "Hiking Trails". Or you could skip all of this and use the map posted below.

It's official! UFDSSC

The is going to be Missouri's premier single-speed mountain bike race of the year. The race is located in just off I-44 in St. James, MO at the Forest City Mountain Bike Trail. The trails were built from the dirt up by single speeders in collaboration with Ole'man Fuhrmann at Route 66 Bicycles in Rolla, MO. If you know anything about the Fuhrmann8r, you know he likes to go fast, shred sick trails, and have a damn good time while doing it. So you should expect nothing less from this race...

Laps will be will be about 7ish miles, featuring several rocks, and a couple turns, with a recommended gear ratio of 1:4 (not a typo). This isn't your average, "get there, kit up, race, pack up, go home" mountain bike race. There will be festivities BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER, that's right! Music, Beer, Food, and a possible "TAKE A SHOT SHORTCUT" during the race, will highlight the day.

In true single speed fashion there will be sweet shwag and prizes will be given to the top riders in all categories...

...and for you wimpy geared folks not wanting to miss out on this amazing time, we have two words for you: MAGIC. GEAR. This will be a SINGLE SPEED ONLY event. You have your races the rest of the year, so this one is for us. However, don't let that prevent you from coming down and being merry with us, while screaming at the top of your lungs heckling your non-geared friends as they struggle to get on top of their single gear.

More info will be made available as the date gets closer, but you might as well clear that date on your calendar now.
